Akademi tarafından yapılan duyuruya göre, bu yıl 12 kategoride kısa liste oluşturuldu.Kısa listelerin açıklandığı kategoriler şöyle: Animasyon Kısa Film, Oyuncu Seçimi (Casting), Görüntü Yönetimi (Sinematografi), Uzun Metraj Belgesel Film, Kısa Belgesel Film, Uluslararası Uzun Metraj Film, Canlı Aksiyon Kısa Film, Makyaj ve Saç Tasarımı, Müzik (Özgün Beste), Müzik (Özgün Şarkı), Ses ve Görsel Efektler.Adayların açıklanmasından önce önemli bir aşama olarak kabul edilen kısa listeler, Oscar yarışında öne çıkan yapımları gözler önüne seriyor.
